Fredon Students Lady Liberty Collage to be included in 2011 Youth Art Advocacy Calendar. |
Samantha Russell's 'Lady Liberty Collage' was selected in a statewide competition for inclusion in the 2011 Youth Art Advocacy Calendar sponsored by AENJ. Samantha and her family are invited to an artist's reception to be held at the NJ Performing Arts Center in Newark, NJ on September 19, 2010. At that time Samantha will be recognized for her achievement with a certificate and a printed copy of the 2011 calendar poster. The twelve pieces selected for the calendar will be on display at the Victoria Theater throughout the fall of 2010.

Fredon preschoolers make a Quilt of Valor |
The Preschoolers at Fredon Elementary School made quilt squares in honor of Memorial Day. Their quilt squares will be sent to the Quilts of Valor foundation to be made into a quilt for a wounded soldier. For more information about Quilts of Valor, go to www.qovf.org .

Jesse Burrini is Fredon School's Principal for the Day |
Jesse Burrini, a kindergartener at Fredon School, got to be "Principal for the Day". The Fredon Education Foundation held a Gala with a silent auction and "Principal for the Day" was one of the items in the auction. Jesse spent his day attending meetings, checking on classrooms, approving posters to be hung in the hallway, making announcements to the whole school and to top it off, he helped run a fire drill! What a busy, but fun day he had! Jesse is pictured here with Jennifer Olsyn, Dean of Students, and Sal Constantino, Superintendent.

Fredon's Orange Crush softball team heads to the playoffs |
Coaches Paul Russell, Kelly Cooke, Sue Zieba, Mark Slepian have worked hard with Orange Crush ending their season with an incredible 7-5 record and are now heading to the Playoffs. Sgt. Redden visits Kindergarten |
Mrs. Monica Cacciaguida's kindergarten class at Fredon School has parent visitors during their Tea Time Program. Parents share information with the students about a special job, hobby or interest of theirs and at the end of the program iced tea and cookies are served. Sgt. Redden came in to tell the students about his job as a New Jersey State Trooper. He explained what his job entails and then showed the children his State Police car. Pictured are: Sgt. Spaghetti helps fund education |
The Fredon Educational Foundation held its second annual Spaghetti Dinner at the Fredon School on April 30. The event was attended by many school families and local towns people. A 50/50 raffle, DJ and door prizes added to the evening.

Student Council raises money for Susan G. Koman for the Cure and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society |
Over the past two months, Fredon School Student Council Members have organized fundraisers to benefit Cancer Research. With the help of students, staff and community, they have raised over $1300.00 for Susan G. Koman for the Cure and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. March Rave Award Winner |
Congratulations to Jane Morgan, Fredon School's RAVE Award winner for the month of March!

Fredon School 4th graders learn about the Americn Revolution |
As the fourth graders at Fredon Township School have recently wrapped up their unit of study on the American Revolution, Mr. Mark Hontz, parent of fourth grader, Thomas, delivered an historical presentation. Mr. Hontz's presentation included information about Sussex County Revolution heroes and landmarks, as well as popular music of the late eighteenth century. At the culmination of the presentation, the fourth graders paraded through the halls carrying replica flags singing "Yankee Doodle."

1st grader wins poster contest |
Kate Fetherman, a first grader at Fredon School, won the kindergarten through second grade category of the Springfest Flower & Garden Show poster contest. Kate received a $50 savings bond and her poster was displayed at the show. Students were invited to enter a poster that celebrates all things that grow. Pictured is Kate with her artwork.

Fredon School 3rd graders learn about owning a business |
Chris Paul of That's Entertainment and Over the Edge Productions, came in to talk to the 3rd grade at Fredon School about owning a business. Students participated in an active discussion, saw a sample reel, and were able to handle a real camera. "I think your job is really cool," said one student. "I would like to do that when I grow up!" another student commented.

Fredon School's first RAVE award winner |
Lisa Modafferi is the first recipient of Fredon School's new RAVE Award. RAVE stands for Recognizing All Valuable Employees and honors those who exemplify the highest level of team spirit and commitment to Fredon students in all areas. Any employee of the Fredon Township School is eligible. Congratulations to Lisa Modafferi, Fredon School's very first winner!

Third graders make stone soup |
Ms. Stephanie Drag's 3rd grade class read the story "Stone Soup." At the end of the week, they made their own version of stone soup. The students commented "It smells delicious!" "MMMMM it tastes good!"

Food & Water Drive for Haiti |
Fredon Township School's National Elementary Honor Society held a food and water drive to collect items for the earthquake victims in Haiti. All donations made were collected by the organization "Food for the Poor." Hibernating Preschoolers |
The Fredon School PreK class recently learned about hibernation. To end the learning unit, they had a hibernation day complete with PJ's and their hibernating bears. The preschoolers in Mrs. Kelly Kline's class at Fredon Township School have been busy making gingerbread cookies. The children enjoyed making and eating gingerbread men of their very own.

Fredon School Environmental Club makes snowman ornaments out of recyled materials |

6th Grade Biographies |
For the sixth grade students at Fredon School, the first marking period book report was dedicated to getting to know some famous individuals whose actions have helped change our world.
Students read a biography of their choice and presented an oral presentation on the life of their person. Students also had to dress up as the individual for the presentation.

Podcasting in 4th Grade |
The fourth grade students at Fredon Township School have been studying New Jersey's regions and resources as part of the Social Studies curriculum. Pictured are Hannah Manning and Christina Ishiba viewing a podcast on the natural resources of our state. The podcast, viewed on iPod Touches on Tuesday November 17, was created by their fourth grade teacher Ashley Martin. "It had a lot of good information in it and was different than just reading it from the book," said Hannah.

Anuual Turkey Trot |
Fredon Township Elementary School's Annual Turkey Trot Race took place on Tuesday, November 17th. The race was the culmination of "Run for Fun", where third through sixth grade students counted up the miles they voluntarily ran during gym class and recess. Students in grades 4 through 6 were able to participate in the race. A total of 104 runners ran in the race which was approximately 1 mile long. Pictured are the winners. The top 3 finishers for the girl's race were: 3rd place - Bethany Ryan (6:33), 2nd place - Jessica Sparling (6:13) and 1st place - Delaney Koch (6:12). The top 3 finishers for the boy's race were: 3rd place - Jake VanWingerden (5:50), 2nd place - Cort Rohsler (5:49) and 1st place - Chris Russell (5:42). Also pictured are our turkeys: Nancy McGoverm, Tori Holste and Ryan Ortiz, along with physical education teacher, Mrs. Lisa Trusa, who coordinated the event. Congratulations to all the runners who participated. You are all winners!

Mrs. Susan Vogt’s kindergarten class made spider webs out of black paper, white paint and marbles. |
Mrs. Susan Vogt's kindergarten class at Fredon School made spider webs out of black paper, white paint and marbles. Rowan Edelman's mom, Elizabeth, came in to create the spider webs with the children. The students put the marbles in watered-down white paint and then rolled the marbles all over the black paper, which was cut into a spider web shape. This created a beautiful spider web! Adding a plastic spider completed the entire project.

Fredon Students Raise and Release Monarch Butterflies |
The fourth graders of Fredon Township School have been studying metamorphosis as part of their science unit on the Animal Kingdom. Collin Shotwell, a fourth grader, brought in the caterpillars early in the school year. For two weeks the students, led by their science teacher, Mr. Karl, observed the changes made in the transformation from caterpillar to butterfly. The nine monarchs were released outside of the school as students took notice of the butterflies' flight path toward Mexico.

Fredon School holds first DAK Raffle |
Fredon School's DAK program awards students for daily acts of kindness. Congratulations to this year's first DAK raffle winners: as pictured (top row left to right) Ian Keppler, Brittany Hill, Justin Modafferi (bottom row left to right) Alicia Framarin, Amanda Keppler, Olivia Catalfamo. They were the winners of miniature golf for themselves and a friend at the Newton Driving Range.

Claudia Ryan had her artwork included in the Art Educators of NJ 2010 Youth Art Month Advocacy Calendar. |
Claudia Ryan, a third grade student at Fredon School, had her artwork included in the Art Educators of NJ 2010 Youth Art Month Advocacy Calendar. Twelve pieces were selected out of several hundred entries from across the state of NJ. On Sunday, September 20th, Claudia, her family and art teacher, Beth Delaney, attended the artists' reception at NJPAC in Newark, NJ where the calendar was officially unveiled. Students were honored with refreshments, certificates and ribbons. The 2010 Advocacy calendar will hang throughout NJ in schools and government offices.
