The Daughters of the American Revolution sponsors an American History Contest each year for students in grades 6-8. This year’s topic was The War of 1812. Students pretended they were alive during the War of 1812 and had a friend who became famous in history by standing up for America during that exciting but dangerous time. Fredon had eleven of its sixth graders submit essays to the contest. Christina Ishiba was a chosen winner for the Chinkchewunska Chapter. Her essay is currently being reviewed at the state level. She will also attend a luncheon at the DAR Van Bunschooten Museum in Wantage this April where she will be honored for her achievement.
